Book Review — Nothing to Prove: Why We Can Stop Trying So Hard

Jennie Allen's words in Nothing to Prove: Why We Can Stop Trying So Hard breathed life into my exhausted soul. Jesus' living water poured off the pages to quench a deep thirst I didn't know I had. Like many of us, I have spent so much time trying to prove that I'm good enough, that I'm capable, that I'm worthy of opportunities, worthy of love, I lost myself and my joy to an impossible endeavor.

Jennie bravely and beautifully shares her story of not being enough and the grace and life that Jesus brought to her in that place.

“Sadly, because life is hard and most of us don’t feel like we are knocking it out of the park for God or anyone else, we live a bit afraid that when God looks our way, He is disappointed.”

“God already knows we are not enough, but He’s not asking us to be. We are the ones who have chosen to walk through the desert with enormous packs strapped to our backs full of everything but water. As if the kingdom of God were held together by us.”

Through beautiful retellings of the book of John, Jennie invites us to experience Jesus in a new way and connect with His heart. I don't even have words to describe the healing Jesus brought me through reading this book.

If you are exhausted from trying so hard, wondering where the real you went in all the performing, and needing streams of grace to flood your life, I could not recommend Nothing to Prove more.

I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review. My opinions are my own.
